IPVS - IP Validation Service

IP Asset Delegation Pools

Staking on IP Assets greatly benefits the Story Ecosystem, but most users won't have the expertise to choose which IP Assets they should stake on. Therefore, we will have delegation pools for $verioIP staking. To start, we will have a single operator and one delegation pool managed by the Story Foundation and Verio team, directing $verioIP stake towards whitelisted IP Assets registered on Story. Over time, the number and types of delegation pools will increase and become more decentralized.

IPVS - IP Validation Service

Think of IP Validation Service (IPVS) as AVS, but for IP Assets. Each delegation pool will have an operator managing a set of configurations opting into staking on different types of IP Assets. Users can choose to stake with a set of IPVSs matching their preferences. There can be many different types of IPVS based on IP Asset category, maturity, yield percentage, and risk factors. Below are some ideas for different types of IPVSs.

Creator Driven IPVS

Creator Driven IPVS

It is quite common that a single creator has multiple IPs registered on Story. A strategy for an operator is to develop and manage an IPVS delegating its staking power towards one or a set of trustworthy creator(s). For example, if a creator (address) has been continuously registering IP Assets, providing decent incentives for IP Assets staking, and these assets have never been disputed, staking on this creator's current and future IP Assets should have a good risk-reward ratio.

Safety Driven IPVS

Because an IP Asset can be permissionless-ly registered on Story, even a successfully registered IP Asset could be in violation of existing assets' IP rights. When an IP Asset gets successfully disputed, stakes of $verioIP on this IP Asset get slashed. As an operator, one can evaluate what types of IP Assets are safe. Here are a couple factors to consider:

  • Creator's Proof of Socials. Has the creator (address) relayed any offchain social information onchain (e.g. Twitter)? Has the creator shown proof of humanhood (e.g. Worldcoin)?

  • Creator's Historical record. Has the creator (address) previously registered IP Assets? Are any of those IP Assets disputed? Have any of them been disputed and deemed illegitimate?

  • Parents' IPs Validity. Assuming a child IP asset, how long has it been since the parent IPs are registered? Have any of the parent IPs been disputed?

  • Due Diligence. Try researching the IP content on open internet. Are there similarity matches from other authors? Is this asset AI generated?

See IP Asset Validity Score section for more details on evaluating an IP's legitimacy.

Yield Driven IPVS

Each IP Asset will offer different yield depending on its incentives pool seeded by the creator and Verio. A strategy could be for an operator managing IPVS to delegate stake towards high risk reward IP Asset staking pools. Such IPVS could specifically seek for staking on IP Assets that don't yet have the target stake weight threshold met. These high yield pools are usually from newly registered IP Assets trying to gain legitimacy recognition, but are often quite risky as there's probably very little due diligence conducted on these IP Assets yet. Therefore, users and operators will have to carefully weigh the risks and rewards on this kind of IPVSs.

AI Driven IPVS

Operators run AI algorithms actively to compare newly registered IP assets (e.g. images) against existing databases, and leverage AI-generated similarity scores to direct stake toward assets accordingly. Usually, the lower the similarity scores, the higher the likelihood that this newly registered IP Asset is valid.
